Scientists and Community Leaders Join Forces for Sustainable Development: WG2 Coordination Meeting of the TransLearn Project

On January 24, 2025, a coordination meeting between scientists and the leadership of unified territorial communities took place within the framework of Working Group 2 (Working group for sustainable Community Ukraine development) of the international project “Transformational Learning Network for Resilience – Enabling Ukrainian higher education to ensure a sustainable and robust reconstruction of (post-war) Ukraine” (TransLearn).
The event brought together representatives from higher education institutions, postgraduate students, undergraduate students, and leadership from five communities in the Kyiv region: Dmytrivska, Haivoronska, Zazymska, Kaharlyts’ka, and Feodosiivska.
Working Group 2 focuses on establishing cooperation between the scientific community and local communities to address sustainable development challenges and provide educational support. During the meeting, participants discussed:

Work plan for the first half of 2025
Prospects for implementing project proposals from communities
Organization of an educational campaign on waste management in the Dmytrivska community of Bucha district, including educational activities in preschool and general education institutions
Formation of an educational communication network for sustainable development with other communities
Status of developing a sustainable development strategy for the Feodosiivska community of Obukhiv district
Progress in implementing the “Desna River Restoration” project in partnership with the Zazymska community

The main outcome of the meeting was the approval and support from community leadership for the concept and planned activities related to the formation and development of an educational communication network for sustainable development. Special attention was given to the importance of engaging various population groups in this initiative.
The TransLearn project continues its mission to strengthen the capacity of Ukrainian higher education institutions to contribute to the sustainable and effective reconstruction of Ukraine through transformational learning and cross-sectoral cooperation.
